The Biosphere Certification Mark – OLD
Launched in 2019, the Biosphere Certification Mark recognises exemplars in local sustainable enterprise. It is a trademarked quality scheme open to five sectors: Accommodation, Attractions, Food & Drink, Creative Industries, and Businesses & Services. There are two application windows every year, and businesses must be based within the Biosphere region to apply. Certification is achieved through an assessment process which aligns with Sustainable Development Goals, and awards are approved by a panel drawn from the Biosphere’s Partnership Board and Trustees.
Our Business Engagement & Development officers work closely with local enterprises that wish to apply for the Biosphere Certification Mark – celebrating what they have already achieved and supporting their innovation and new ideas. Sustainability in business depends on making connections and learning from each other, so we also host an annual programme of workshops, marketing webinars and networking events that allow for knowledge-exchange and the forging of new business relationships.
The Biosphere Certification Mark is growing every year as a regional brand and has been used as a model for similar schemes elsewhere in the UK. Our Biosphere-certified businesses are helping lead southwest Scotland towards a greener future. The certification mark logo provides assurance to customers and guests that their spend is sustainable: that it will be reinvested in the local community and economy, and that it will support positive environmental practice.
