SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth – Stranraer Development Trust
The Stranraer Development Trust was formed in 2016 with the primary aims of achieving sustainable regeneration of the community of Stranraer whilst addressing a range of economic, social, environmental and cultural issues. The Stranraer Place Plan was produced in 2023, made by, for and with the local people to set priorities for change. This plan highlights some of the existing projects in the area, like the Community Re-Use Shop and the Millenium Centre, as well as upcoming projects like the George Hotel redevelopment and the Stranraer Watersports Centre. The Stranraer Development Trust serves as an example of how a community can come together to create and support projects that grow the local economy, meeting UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 – ‘Decent Work and Economic Growth’ on a local scale.
