SDG 17 – Partnerships – Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere
The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere (GSAB) was awarded its Biosphere Reserve designation in 2012 and is one of seven in the UK and one of over 700 in the world. Biosphere Reserve designation aims to bring both people and nature together for sustainable development. At the heart of this mission is the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals which look to address “poverty and other deprivations…with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.”(United Nations, 2023). The GSAB puts partnership-working at the forefront of the work they do to address these issues, working closely with communities and organisations within the public, private, and third sectors to help themselves and each other to achieve the SDGs – in and of itself contributing to goal 17 ‘Partnerships for the Goals’.
