SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production – SMCC Whithorn
The South Machars Community Centre in Whithorn serves the town and surrounding communities. The introduction of a community fridge has been a key initiative in reducing food waste and supporting responsible use of local resources. By collecting surplus perishable stock from the local supermarkets and distributing them to local people, the community fridge helps minimise the environmental impact of food disposal while supporting better health and nutrition. Through promoting awareness of food waste and a culture of sharing, the SMCC shows how local practice can contribute to global Sustainable Development Goals.
