SDG 1 – No Poverty – East Ayrshire Woodlands
Operating within the Hannahston Community Woodlands is the East Ayrshire Woodlands’ Training Programme (EAWTP). The EAWTP provides opportunities to young people aged 18-24 who are not in employment, education or training in Ayrshire to gain the skills and experience needed to work in grounds maintenance and forestry. The programme also offers full-time work placements across East, South and North Ayrshire, affording young trainees with temporary employment. The programme showcases the great work being done by organisations in the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere who are actively attempting to tackle poverty and its effects from the bottom-up, looking to increase the employability of young people within Ayrshire and ultimately contributing to the UN’s SDG one – ‘No Poverty’.
