The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere key goal is to foster sustainable economy and society. The Biosphere provides an opportunity for businesses of all sectors to “do things differently” while safeguarding the environment for both current and future generations. It is an area that demonstrates a way of living and working that is not only possible but already happening.
The benefits include: opportunities to connect with the globally respected quality assurance of the UNESCO designation and associated Biosphere branding; synergies from knowledge sharing and collaboration, marketing opportunities for sustainably produced products and sustainably managed environments, added value to existing projects and international networks through which to share experiences and develop partnerships.

Biosphere Dark Sky Rangers
The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere is home to the Galloway Dark Skies Park In 2009 Galloway Forest Park became the first UK and 5th World International Dark Sky Park -a major accolade for Scotland and the UK. The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere and the Dark Sky Park are intrinsically linked and the designation of both present opportunities for organisations and business.
A fundamental aspect of the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park is the potential to bring tourism to the area in the quieter autumn and winter months. For this reason four Biosphere Dark Sky Rangers have been trained to communicate about the wonders of the night sky and the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere. The self-employed Biosphere Dark Sky Rangers have a variety of skills and specialisms and present opportunities to private sector businesses such as hotels, B&B’s and campsites to run events and tailor make experiences for their customers.
