Join the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere Partnership Board

The Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere designation is recognition by the international community of what a special place our corner of Scotland really is. It is also recognition of the commitment from local communities, businesses, ngo's and agencies to work together, often as members of our Partnership Board to improve the lives, the environment and the local economy in a sustainable way for all of us.

Two of our original Biosphere Partnership Board members who played an invaluable role in getting us started are now standing down after almost 10 years involvement. They will still be involved with us but see this as an opportunity to enable new people to join the Board, to bring in thier enthusiasm, thier knowledge and thier expertise to enable us to continue to grow our UNESCO Biosphere into a world class place for people and nature.

Do you have the time and skills we need?

Perhaps you have been active in supporting your local community and maybe neighbouring communities as well, in developing new opportunities that will benefit them socially, economically or environmentally?

Perhaps you are involved in running or supporting local businesses linked to food and drink, tourism or activities?

Maybe you have a passion for the environment and can see ways of helping the Biosphere play a more prominent role in addressing the climate emergency or in securing a more sustainable future for the habitats, species and landscapes of the Biosphere?

And crucially like so many organisations we need help in securing funding, so do you have experience of fundraising or engaging with corporate bodies?

We need dynamic people who want to share thier expertise and thier contacts to help influence how we and the communities from across our UNESCO Biosphere can build stronger partnerships for the benefit of all who live and work in the region.

The Partnership Board meets four times per year rotating around locations in East Ayrshire, South Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

If you think you might be interested, then why not come along to our 2018/19 AGM at the new Ochiltree Community Hub, Ochiltree, Cumnock KA18 2PE on Tuesday 10th December 2019, starting at 10.30 am (tea and coffee from 10.00 am).

You’ll be made very welcome and will be able to meet our existing Board members and get a flavour for some of the topics that we are currently involved in.

After a sandwich lunch we hope to be joined by partners who will present work they are doing on the Upper Nith River Restoration project and will also hear back from Board member who were part of a group who took part in a recent visit to Finland to visit North Karelia Biosphere to learn about eco tourism development through our international SHAPE project.

We'd hope to complete by around 2pm.

If you would like to get attend or to get involved then please get in touch with:
