Biosphere Certification Mark Applications Open

Are you a Biosphere Proud Supporter Business working hard to support our Biosphere?

Our Biosphere Certification Mark is awarded to businesses demonstrating their commitment to operating sustainably - looking after the environment, supporting the local community and working with and using the services and goods of local businesses. And of course championing what's special within the Galloway and Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere.
A sustainable business is one where profitability, concern for the environment and social commitment are in harmony and it's more important than ever to operate in this way. Also consumers are becoming much more discerning about selecting products and services that can demonstrate positive sustainability credentials.

We are really pleased to share that the work we have been carrying out with our local businesses in our Biosphere has been shortlisted under the 'Business' category.

Our Biosphere has had some notable successes
The only UNESCO Biosphere Business Certification in the UK
Over 150 Business Proud Supporters committing to the Biosphere Sustainability Charter
14 local businesses taking part in international learning journeys to explore how other countries use their UNESCO Biosphere designations.
40 Biosphere Businesses attended our Biosphere Good for Business event in January 2020
We have developed Biosphere Sense of Place toolkit

This is only the beginning of the journey. Our Biosphere Businesses are wanting to work together more to source supplies more locally, to work together to offer Biosphere Experiences combining local accommodation, local food and drink with local activities. To learn more about the Biosphere and its environment so that they can share it with their customers and guests.
