Aldaron Woodcrafts is a small rural business run by us, Gabriel Vindt and Iona Dunbar. We live in an old forester’s cottage in Glentrool Village in the Galloway Forest. From our workshop at home we make chopping boards, cheese boards, benches, bread boards, celtic calendars, clocks, wedding favours and lots more.
We make everything by hand. Our designs are rustic, working in sympathy with the natural contours and twists of the wood. Often we decorate pieces with pyrography. This means we burn an image by hand with a specialised tool onto the surface of the wood—like drawing with fire! We also use coloured resins to enhance imperfections such as knots in the wood.
Most of our inspiration comes from spending lots of time outdoors and often we find ideas come to us as soon as we hold a piece of wood and start to work with it. Our designs are always changing and each item we make is unique. All our hardwood is grown and harvested locally
